Most of the major utilities use the RTUs which is a microprocessor-controlled electronic device that interfaces substation equipment like the MV Switchgear/ RMU, DC system etc. to a Central Control station by transmitting telemetry data to a master system. Thus, the RTUs are used by utilities to both monitor and control the substation from a central remote location.
